Ron Dickum
Drums
Biography
Ron Dickum was born in Philadelphia and has been behind a drum kit for the better part of 30 years. He was drawn to music from childhood, but the instrument wasn't always drums. He was set to play bass in his first band until he saw Dio and Accept live in concert. That show rewired everything. He walked out knowing he was a drummer. His biggest early influences tell the story from there: Kiss, Dio, Accept, and Stryper all shaped the player he'd become.
Before Storms Within, Ron cut his teeth in several bands across the scene, most notably Vendetta and A Bed of Razors. It was A Bed of Razors that connected him with the other two founding members of Storms Within, and they'd been collaborating in various projects for years before this band came together. For Ron, joining wasn't a recruitment — it was a natural evolution. The chemistry was already there.
Ron describes his drumming style as "a bit of 80s hair metal groove, current metal, and a splash of dark groove" — and that blend is exactly what you hear when he plays. When he's not behind the kit, he's deep into RPG games on Xbox or PS5, watching movies, or buying, selling, and trading audio equipment. His musical taste runs far wider than metal. He's a fan of dance music ("skate jams — thanks, E!"), classical, doom jazz, and what he calls his true love: gothic love metal. The best live show he's ever seen? Ghost, hands down — the first theatrical performance to hit him that hard since the Dio days.
"This thing we do called Storms Within is truly my favorite band I've ever been honored to be in," Ron says. "We have an amazing chemistry both on and off the stage. This isn't just a band — this is my family." If he could pick anyone for Storms Within to share a stage with, it'd be Halestorm, Jinjer, and The Pretty Reckless. And he has one important thing to settle: "It's soda, not pop." But seriously — "I want to thank all our fans, friends, and families for the love and support. Without you, we couldn't do this thing we call Storms."
